Description
Duke University's Division of Student Affairs is seeking a full-time regular rank faculty family medicine physician to join its Duke Student Health team. Duke Student Health provides primary and acute care services to more 19,000 Duke University undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Duke Student Health’s mission is to foster wellness and contribute to every student’s ability to flourish during their time at Duke.
This position will join a dynamic and collaborative team of clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff who have access to a unified electronic health record system, an expansive network of specialists for consultation and referral, ancillary services for diagnostic and testing needs, and a robust telehealth platform for video visits.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent ambulatory clinical skills and have board certification with the American Board of Family Medicine. Prior experience working in a college health clinical setting is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the college student health population, embrace patient-centered care, and demonstrate commitment to improving the health and wellness of the student body.

Requirements
Direct Services – 85%
- Provide and facilitate direct in-person and telehealth patient care visits including physical examinations, laboratory evaluations, assessments/diagnoses, treatments, and/or referrals.
- Provide a scope of primary care that includes (but is not limited to) preventive care, acute care, chronic illness management, and mental health relevant to the college student health population.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in patients’ electronic health record as well as manage an EHR inbox to assure compliance with state and federal regulatory, licensure, and accreditation requirements.
- Provide week-long after-hours on-call coverage on average every six to eight weeks to back up the nurse answering service.
- Supervise Advanced Practice Providers including provision of timely feedback and assessment per state and Duke requirements and policies.
- Collaborate with clinician colleagues, nurses, administrators, and staff to contribute to a high performing work environment.
- Communicate with consulting specialists and other providers as necessary to facilitate ongoing care and treatment of students.
- Participate in relevant Duke Student Health and Student Affairs meetings and programs.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described above.
Faculty Endeavors – 10%
- Engage scholarly activities to advance the college health field including but not limited to publication in scholarly journals and didactic lecturing.
- Precept residents in the Student Health clinic including Family Medicine residents using Student Health as their community site as well as Peds/Med-Peds residents participating in their Adolescent Medicine Rotation.
- Engage in quality assessment and quality improvement activities for accreditation purposes and Student Affairs reporting.
- Create content for and participate in student outreach activities.
Other-5% of Effort
- Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet departmental, Division and University goals and objectives, as assigned by their Supervisor, Director, or respective designees.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Licensure
- MD or DO graduate from an accredited medical school program and completion of a Family Medicine residency.
- Unrestricted medical license issued by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Federal DEA and State prescriptive authority.
- American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM board eligible or pending graduates may also apply)
Strongly Preferred Experiences:
- At least three years’ experience in primary care and/or urgent care practice with prior experience in college student health strongly preferred.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Competency in common office procedures such as suturing, incision and drainage, toenail removal preferred.
- Comfort with primary care mental health care and prescribing strongly preferred.

- The primary nature of this position is that of clinical and office-based work in a healthcare setting, with occasional work performed in varied environments. Responsibilities require intermittent sitting for administrative tasks, frequent walking or standing for extended periods of time, as well as frequent movement throughout clinical areas including navigating stairs. The role also may require positioning or assisting patients and handing equipment up to 50lbs. Repetitive motions such as typing and use of medical instruments will also be required.
