The Internal Medicine Technician is involved in all aspects of internal medicine, and contributes to client care and communication. The Internal Medicine Technician is responsible for monitoringhospitalizedpatients,assistingwithandadministeringtreatments,patientcare,client education, scheduling, assisting with procedures and answering technician calls. The Internal Medicine Technician works under the primary direction of the Lead Technician and the Technician Supervisor.
DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
ProcedureKnowledge
Endoscopy-Setup,assistwith,andcleanandmaintainequipmentforGIendoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy.
Maintainsteriletechnique.
Setupandassistwithcommoninternalmedicineprocedures:transtrachealwash, biopsies, bone marrow cytology/biopsy.
DiagnosticTestingSkills
Laboratorysamples:RunautomatedCBCs,bloodchemistries,I-stats,refractometerand prepare and read blood films.
Prepare and administer medications and prescriptions in accordance with state regulationsanddoctor’sorders(includingIV,IM,SC,PO,Rectal,Nebulization,etc.)
Anesthesia:Administerandmonitoranesthesiainaccordancewithstateregulationsand doctors’ orders. Troubleshoot and identify problems with critical patients underanesthesia.
Communicate with clients regarding the medical information of their pet, provide accurateinformationtothemregardingprocedures,followup/homecare,hospital policies; diagnostics and basic disease processes.
